The Holidays are officially here!!! And so is your family from out of town. Don’t fret- with a little
preparation you can welcome your guests with open arms
Clean up the Entryway
Your guests first impression begins at your front door and entryway! Most hosts focus only on what’s happening inside and forget to give a little love to what guests see first. Greenery, holiday decorations and lights will set the stage. Customize your seasonal decorations with some DIY touches! Oh and don’t forget to sweep the doorway
2. Plan a Welcome Meal
Have you ever spent the day traveling via airplane, then sat in traffic finally arriving to your destination hungry, tired and a little grumpy? Us too- and it’s the worst, so plan a special meal for your guests. Nothing says “we are so grateful you are here” like the smell of hot meal cooking in the kitchen (and a glass of wine).
3. De Clutter your space
Take some time before your guests arrive to declutter guest rooms and public areas — foyer, kitchen, living room, den, and dining room. Remove anything unnecessary from countertops, coffee tables, and ottomans; Nothing makes guests feel more uncomfortable than having to maneuver around your kids dirty socks.
4. Stock Up on Guest Supplies
Be prepared by making sure you have extra essentials on hand. Towels, sheets, pillows, blankets, shampoo, soap, toothpaste! It’s really helpful to keep these all in one cabinet designated for guests. That way it’s easy for them to find what they need when they need it (and you can go ahead and finish watching Stranger Things).
5. Create some space
You want to make your guests feel at home, so providing the necessary room for them to unpack in essential. Take a quick note before they arrive of any additional storage available (maybe clean out that coat closet that no one uses?). If that isn’t an option, a drawer or two should suffice.
Hosting friends and family around the holidays can be a lot of fun. Save the stress and do a little preparation before they arrive- that way you don’t have to miss a bit of the excitement!
